Savage Game Studio completed a seed round of financing to raise $4.4 million. The studio is currently working on its first title – a shooter for mobile devices. It will move into the production phase using the raised funds.

Savage Game Studios are based in Berlin, Germany, and Helsinki, Finland, and has been relatively quiet with their plans. Established by Michail Katkoff, the founder of Deconstructor of Fun (a blog and podcast), the studio is currently developing its first titlea shooter for mobile devices. The raised funds will help the studio move into the production phase.

Katkoff stated,

“All of the shooter games, since the start of battle royale boom in 2018, have focused on competitive fast-paced gameplay. We see there an opening for games that offer an opportunity to play with others and have rewarding sessions without the high pressure of the player-versus-player environment.”

Makers Fund and Play Ventures led the funding’s seed round. Other prominent investors were Jussi Laakkonen, former Executive VP at Unity Technologies; Asbjoern Soendergaard, CEO of Tactile Games; Eric Seufert’s Mobile Dev Memo syndicate; and Elite Games CEO Joakim Achren’s game investment syndicates.

Savage Game Studios currently has ten employees, but they are looking to double their size in 2021. Katkoff said,

“The mobile games industry continues to grow at a double-digit pace year over year. The growth that is driven both by existing and new games enables more studios to thrive. The reason for starting a new studio is that smaller studios can — and are expected — to take chances. Try something new that doesn’t exist in the market. Larger studios are by nature simply more risk-averse.”
