The Nintendo Switch has been a cult-favorite console for a while now. It even managed to beat Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles when it came to sales! One of the things that make the console so great is Nintendo’s constant stream of updates that make it more user-friendly. The latest firmware update, 12.1.0, is now out and adds two key new features.
Along with the general stability improvements which come with each Nintendo firmware update, one of the key features of 12.1.0 is storage space system functionality. This allows users to easily delete the software update data if there isn’t enough space available for downloading the new update. And yes, this can be done for both the internal storage as well as the microSD.
It also spears that the Switch’s operating system was updated. This info comes from Switch data miner OatmealDome, who says that Nintendo seems to have introduced a new encryption master key to combat hacking and modding.
This new system update will be automatically downloaded to your Switch, provided you have that functionality enabled. The update can also be downloaded manually via the system settings menu.
Here are the full patch notes of update 12.1.0.

- General system stability improvements have been made to enhance the user’s experience.
While it’s great that Nintendo has been consistently updating the Switch, they are still quiet about the rumors of a new, more powerful one in development. This new console, dubbed Switch Pro, is said to be the next generation of the handheld and may even boast some NVIDIA Lovelace architecture.
Knowing Nintendo, we won’t have any info unless there’s a leak or until they are ready to showcase the new console properly. So till that day, Switch users will just have to keep themselves busy with the current generation console.
