Valve Still Has Lots of Games in Development, Half-Life and Portal series to Continue

Everyone nowadays knows Valve due to the success of Steam and Steam Deck, which made it into a multi-billion dollar company. However, we must not forget that the company is a video-game developer too. With critically acclaimed titles like Portal, Team Fortress, and Half-Life, Valve has made many fan-favorite games throughout the years.

One of which was the recently released Half-Life: Alyx, which was very well-received overall, but its VR exclusivity meant that many players never got around to playing it, limiting its overall reach and appeal. This kept us wondering what Valve had planned regarding its game releases further down the road.

Valve’s product designer Greg Coomer has confirmed that Valve is currently working on many titles and is not at all done with developing games and will continue to do so in the near and far future.

We’re not stopping making games at all. Valve has a lot of games in development. We will continue to release games. Game development is very important to Valve. I don’t know the exact numbers, but the percentage of employees involved in game development is high. A lot of people are involved.

Obviously, one might wonder if the flagship Half-Life series will continue. Well, Coomer also confirmed that there are more Half-Life games in production, although he didn’t specify which ones.

The short answer is yes, there’s more to say about the Half-Life world. Alyx is a sign that Valve has more to say about the world.

Another widely known series, Portal, also deserves further exploration and Coomer is excited to work on that as well. But will it be Portal 3? That he didn’t confirm.

It wasn’t explicitly confirmed which projects Valve is currently working on, nor did Coomer give an official timeline. However, we can expect some titles to come towards Steam Deck or maybe Steam Deck’s successor in the future.
