Mass Effect Details Resolution and Framerates for New Legendary Edition

After an initial delay, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is finally coming on all platforms on May 14. The game will bundle together remastered versions of BioWare’s space RPG trilogy, and while a lot has been speculated about the edition’s visual specs, we now officially know how all platforms will project the three games on our TVs and monitors.

The game is arriving for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PS4/5, and as per Mass Effect’s blog post on EA’s website, console players will have the chance to switch between two modes – Favour Quality and Favour Framerate.

Favor Quality prioritizes achieving the highest visual fidelity possible in exchange for a lower target framerate while Favor Framerate, naturally, does the opposite by scaling native resolution and reducing graphical features to give higher framerates.

The blog post also specifies that the consistency of target framerate and resolution is dependent on the platform. So, the more advanced the platform, the higher the consistency of the visual output.

However, it is also important to note that this consistency of output can vary greatly on the same console due to the Favor Quality and Favor Framerate modes. For instance, PS4 and Xbox One will run at up to 30fps at 1080p in Quality mode, but can reach up to 60fps at 1080p in Framerate mode. So, you can make great modifications to your Mass Effect experience as per your fancy.

Here’s the full breakdown of the visual specs, with both modes included across all consoles:

Quality mode

  • PS4 — up to 30 fps, 1080p
  • PS4 Pro — up to 30 fps, 4K UHD
  • PS5 — up to 60 fps, 4K UHD
  • Xbox One — up to 30 fps, 1080p
  • Xbox One X — up to 30 fps, 4K UHD
  • Xbox Series S — up to 30 fps, 4K UHD
  • Xbox Series X — up to 60 fps, 4K UHD

Framerate mode

  • PS4 — up to 60 fps, 1080p
  • PS4 Pro — up to 60 fps, 1440p
  • PS5 — up to 60 fps, 1440p
  • Xbox One — up to 60 fps, 1080p
  • Xbox One X — up to 60 fps, 1440p
  • Xbox Series S — up to 60 fps, 1440p
  • Xbox Series X — up to 120 fps, 1440p

As for PC, if your hardware is up to the task, the game will run at a maximum of 240fps and support refresh rates of up to 240Hz. As you’d expect, PC players will have more options in terms of settings which should help them find their own preferred balance between graphics and performance.
