In which year do the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla take place?

Assassin’s Creed games are well-known to take place during major events in the history of the world and use to tell a story. By using these themes, Ubisoft has given players the ability to explore history entertainingly, by taking down enemies and exploring countries.

However, it isn’t obvious which period is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla based on, considering it’s a plot of a Viking clan moving to England during the medieval period. This information is crucial to know as it helps you to understand the timeline of the Assassin’s Creed series better. As a result, you may ask the year when AC Valhalla takes place.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes place in six-year period between 872 – 878 AD during the time of the Viking takeover of the British Isles. You take on the role of Eivor, the leader of the Vikings, as he tries to make a settlement for his clan in England.

This means that the game is set several years later than Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. To understand more about the period, I’ve answered all the common questions regarding the historical setting of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in this article.

Where does Assassin’s Creed Valhalla fit in the timeline?

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes place in the late 9th century, which means it is the third oldest game in the AC timeline. The games that take place before Valhalla are AC Odyssey and Origins which take place in 431 BC and 43 BC respectively.

It’s worth noting that Valhalla and Odyseey are the only games where the protagonists of the franchise interact with each other. You can interact with Kassandra as Evior and vice versa in the Crossover Series DLC.

Additionally, the gap between Assassin’s Creed Origins and Valhalla is over 900 years which is the longest between two AC games. This means there is a good chance for potential installments during this period.

Is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla historically accurate?

While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla follows the historical theme of Vikings settling in England, the events aren’t completely historically accurate. The game takes the liberty to tweak historical details to deliver a better storytelling experience.

However, you can find several historically accurate details to keep you immersed in the medieval era. For instance, the terminology and language used in the game are surprisingly accurate to the olden times when Vikings were referred to as Danes.

It’s because a large majority of Vikings originate from Norway or Denmark, which is one of the places you can explore in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

In the main story, you will take on the role of a Viking warrior looking to leave cold Norway to raid England. The places you explore in-game resemble real-life locations in the medieval United Kingdom, like Sciropescire (Shropshire), Snotinghamshire (Nottingham), and more.

Later, in the game, you will get to explore different parts of Europe, in the form of DLCs and other different quests. This means you have a lot to explore and discover in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Kassandra

Kassandra is alive several years after the events of Odyseey because she used The Staff of Hermes to become immortal. As a result, she makes an appearance in the Crossover Stories DLC in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Kassandra continues to watch out for any possible dangers from the Isu artifacts throughout the ages, as she waits to give away the staff to someone worthy. She encounters Evior while the Vikings were exploring the islands.

You can explore these interactions by playing the Crossover series DLC in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. They have several interesting conversations and quests together that have piqued the interest of Assassin’s Creed fans.
